XF should have an option to off load attachments to another server. You can do this either by giving in the ip address or domain of the storage server. At Hetzner Germany you pay around 25 euro for 2TB, 16GB I7 server with unlimited transfer.

It would not matter because when you setup a site hub site then you can program what you'll need in the domain structure. Even if XF wants to run this on another domain it will not matter because the domain owner will be known so i think you'll need the basic rule that XF is UK based so those laws counts if for example warez site is not allowed well then they have a problem as warez site you will not be included. If you look at porn then you'll need to save guard for minors so a few checks in place would solve that, if its against a law then it will not be included.

But i am also thinking about this system build in the core of XF so that you can build your own reddit site landing page and build upon that so you can have a reddit clone build in the software.

You kind of have the reddit style on your own forum anyway. The nodes are subreddits and you can build with widgets (new posts) etc. a landing page.

But that is just peanuts. We need sth. which combines every forum with each other to be significant and have a huge visitor pool.

I am not sure if Chris is reading our messages or not but the timing is great.

That is actually very huge. I haven't testet it but if that works flawlessly, this is huge for everyone. Don't know how easy it is to setup but it seems to me not very difficult to accomplish. Great addition honestly. Would have been great if it was supported officially, but XF tends to stay away from server stuff. So I can understand. Let's see how the community reacts to it but this is honestly a good option to have now.

Already exists... it's called an NFS mount and symlinks. ;)

Well, one would assume that if someone was setting up a second server for file storage, they would be familiar with NFS mounts. They (NFS mounts) still get used by many, and the implementation of it is not that hard at all when compared to the overall setting up of a server. :D

Im not finding it cheaper than DO spaces and Amazon S3. But the flysystem can be used in the way you want.

XF 2.1 looks great. Better than any other forum software IMO.

There's this addon I'm currently using, which serves my purposes:

    https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xd-feature-threads.6834/

Not sure how it stacks up against Brogan's old addon (never having used it), but it's free and will probably get some updates - maybe especially if people go out of their way to give it some positive reviews. ;)
