Yes, it'll show the name and address of the domain owner. A lot of registrars offer a whois Guard or similar option to hide that info, but it usually costs extra.

TAZ has domain privacy, so I might as well use it as an example.

    https://whois.domaintools.com/theadminzone.com

That's essentially what you'll be able to see if you choose the whois privacy option.

I use Namecheap for my one domain and I have WhoisGuard on there. It might've been a little bit extra, but not much.

I think it's also free for the first year from them.

It's the real IP typically. If you use CloudFlare or Sucuri (or similar) I'm pretty sure it gives their IP.

This may be a dumb question, but whats stopping anyone from registering a domain with a fake name and address and then paying with a prepaid Visa gift card?

    Possible to do it.
As soon as there is some problem with the domain and they find out that the details are fake the domain will be suspended.

But only if it were queried. Otherwise it would slip under the net...

    Little truth about whois
    1. Extremely easy to forge
    2. Used by bots to scrape things like mails, addresses, to send spam/parcels (yes, I know what Im talking about -> we got parcels many times), to sell your data, etc

    What kind of parcels?
Do (should) you have to pay for them?

    Like servers, tarers, CDs.... many
We returned it every time we received parcel
We even sued POST over selling DBN and requested (serious) removal of our data. Granted.

    YES:: whois sucks.

That's a thing: no-one seems to know what will happen to WHOIS after the new EU data protection rules come in.
