I'm curious to know what sites drive more traffic? I use Facebook a lot as well as Instagram. In your opinion what site drives more traffic for business?

More than anything else, that depends on your target audience.

    1. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, etc., (including newer ones that I suspect no one but the younger crowd even know about) all tend to have somewhat different demographics. Find out where your target audience hangs out and go there to promote your sites.

    2. If part of what you're promoting is a product or service rather than a forum community or blog, also bear in mind that certain social media sites are more suitable for some products or services than others. This is partly due to user demographics but also a function of how the different sites work. Instagram and Pinterest are primarily image based rather than text or information based, so they are more suitable for promoting certain products like fashion, art/photography, food, etc.

    Why not use both?

You can target Facebook and Instagram users from the Facebook Ads manager. If you have to decide on one make it Facebook, unless you have a dynamic video you want to share.

Both sites are excellent as facebook's domain authority is 100 and Instagram's is 99. on both sites you can get more genuine users so ultimately you increase your website traffic.

The biggest issue to Facebook, imho, when it comes to getting traffic to a forum is that many see forums as outdated and archaic and prefer to simply stay on Facebook.

That said if you can drive traffic to your site via either method - why not?
