    What Is Link Building?

Link Building is the process of creating inbound links to ones own website. This can be done by reciprocal links, being listed in e-zines, newsletters, directories, search engines, etc. Link building is one of the best ways to make your site popular. There are few types of linking one of which is reciprocal links.

Reciprocal links or link exchanges is the process where two webmasters agree to show the other's link on their website. After link building when the number of sites which link to a particular site is known as link popularity which helps in the search engine ranking of a website.

There are many advantages of link building.

    1. Link building helps in getting quality traffic from relevant sites which increases sales.
    2. Also when there will be high quality incoming links the site will also be seen as a valuable resource.
    3. Link building helps in creating awarness, visibility and credibility of your site.
    4. The site also obtains wider search engine exposure.
    5. It also helps the website get indexed by search engines.

Today links have become important for all websites and they are worth the money. In fact, there are several companies dedicated to selling links (as opposed to companies that you can pay to do link building for you).

    How Do Directories Help?

Web directories are collections of web pages with similar subjects and similar content. These directories help in many ways as they are extremely popular with Internet users as they are considered a source of valuable information. Listings in directories improve your chances of page ranking as well. If your site is listed in a directory, the search engines are more likely to find it and add it in their listings for free. Also submitting a site on directories helps in getting one way links which are that we have not linked the other person’s site but they have linked us.

There are three kinds of traffic that you can get from the directories where you are listed. The first is click-through traffic, meaning that anyone who ends up on the directory page will be able to see your web site and information, and there is a good chance that they will visit.

The second is indexing your site. Directories will begin to index the pages of your web site once they find the links to it. After that they can come back again and again, bringing you traffic as they do.

The last way that the directories will increase your traffic is increasing your ranking on the search engines themselves as they find the volume of links and references to your web site.

Overall link building is one of the most important steps in building a site, Getting quality links improves your PR and espouser to search engines. Also the possibility of gaining traffic to your site. Many people say link building is dieing out but the facts are simple, You build a site and build links and traffic will come. Also link building also increase your PageRank thus getting more traffic via Google.

while directories do offer backlinks to our sites, google seem to prefer contextual links more than anything else these days. publishing relevant articles on social media sites like squidoo, hubpages with anchor text backlinks, setting up blogs on various different Web 2.0 sites, and syndicating unque articles manually with top article sites will give you the high quality contextual links which will worth lot more than average directory submissions.

Mike provides a pretty good list of directories. Just remember to avoid the offers for hundreds or thousands for directory listing for some low price. Even in link building & SEO you generally get what you pay for. Google has pretty much dismissed free directories and article sites. If an editor is not using some guidelines to approve or reject directory submissions, then it is probably not adding an value to your link building efforts.

The best backlink profile includes links from a variety of sources. Other related sites, unique articles, blog posts, blog comments, social media and so on. It's hard work, but the only way to get to page one on Google in any competitive niche.

There is some very good information about link building in this article, but I would have to agree that although submitting to directories is a good idea it is important to stay away from cheap mass directory submissions. Also, try and focus on contextual linking. Social media sites, blogs, and article sites still provide ample opportunity to vary your link building efforts and these links often do provide more value than directories.

Yes, Social Networking websites can provide Good Backlinks to your website if the Social Networking site provides a "Do Follow" link. Even if the Social Networking website does not provide a "Do Follow" link, you shouldn't be worried about it as you can atleast get some amount of Traffic from a Social Networking website which cannot be expected from Directories.

Doing link building is definitely on the list of tasks for any website owner, but especially for those engaging in some sort of eCommerce activities. Sites that sell products are essentially worthless without visitors, and the only way for them to be found (by people or search engines) is through links. It's not a hugely fun process to build links, but it definitely works! This is why outsourcing those functions remains extremely popular.

Definitely, Link Building is not an easy task and one have to wait for Months and Years to do that. The content of your website also makes a huge difference when it comes to building Links. If your website content is good, you will get Backlinks automatically and you won't have to strive hard for it. So you should make sure that you create quality content for your website and then work on Building links for your website.
