And if going with CentOS (my recommendation) look into using eva2000's CentMin mod.

If you feel comfortable managing your own server - as well as backups, eva2000's Centminmod offers quite a bit. I've used it for many years now, and it continues to get better. I particularly like the SSL setup being automatic.

The only issue if you're unfamiliar with it is NGINX. It's not a drag and drop like Apache is...however I'm quite pleased with NGINX now that I'm more familiar with it.

@ all that reply, Thank you for your advice.
Threadloom, Will have to look at that advice, eva2000's Centminmod.

Right now i have got ploi.io for Server Management Tool and for Server i have vultr.com , Will do the testing with that .
I am a newbie to Vps, commands,etc...so it will be a slow learning curve for me, but will learn it with time.

    Thanks.

Yeah CentOS is the best especially if you wish to make use of WHM/CPanel.

I just went unmanaged VPS for the first time. I'm using centos7 with no complaints. It did come with webmin, which I found very confusing as a panel, so gave webuzo a go and love it. Super easy to set up.

CentOS or Debian either one of them is good. I'd also say install VMWare on your machine and have server version of those OS on your machine too. This way you can test your changes before making them live on VPS. Atleast that is what I'd do.

    Hi,

It depends on what you expect.

My personal choice since your server is unmanaged is FreeBSD + DirectAdmin + NGiNX. Because:

    - Many default settings of FreeBSD are great / security-wise
    - DirectAdmin matches NGiNX perfectly

    - Both DirectAdmin and FreeBSD are light on resources of your server, and you can save by getting a cheaper cloud server.

    - Updating and management of your server with DirectAdmin is very easy

Please feel free to contact me if you would live to have more info.

    Good luck.

After lots of research, I can recommend the VPS S SSD package at https://contabo.com/

    CPU - 4 cores
    RAM - 8GB
    SSD - 200GB
    Port/Bandwidth - 200 Mbit/s port UNLIMITED Traffic

All for less then 5 euros a month. A huge step up from shared hosting! (and actually cheaper!)

avoid this one, don't know any half "decent" provider that withholds there whois information, it does start the bells ringing,

ovh/hetzner or maybe even get recommendations from webhostingtalk...

Signed up two weeks ago and so far have no complaints. Customer support has been top knotch, with emails answered within 30 minutes of sending. Contabo is a huge company.

I have two cloud servers from AiONETS, after a year I am pretty happy with their support. They are based in Europe though.
