I wonder where php could have been now if 5.2/3/4 didn't last for so long... lol

I have had php 7.2 running on a test server for about 2 months.
Not done any tests on speed (I'm not really equiped for such things).
It was causing a few issues with my vB3 & vB4 installations (with errors enabled).

Mostly caused by two of the accepted RFCs for PHP 7.2 : https://wiki.php.net/rfc#php_next_72

Specifically the "Deprecate and Remove Bareword (Unquoted) Strings" & "Counting of non-countable objects".

Ive updated my test server to Alpha 2 now.

As yet, not really had time to poke it any further.

From Alpha 1 to Beta 1 in like a month. When do you think it might be ready for a production environment?

    No.

It was tripping up on returning an array from a function after some really old code had run.

[to run intval() on every element in the array].

The code all seemed valid, I have no idea why it was causing segmentation faults.
I just updated it to use array_map() rather than its ancient way of looping through each element using a for loop.

I've been updating my local 3.6.12 to slowly eliminate all the errors that php 7.2 is producing.
The majority have either been "Use of undefined constant" or "Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable".

nice.. shame you're no longer in charge of keeping official vB 3/4 updated for PHP 7.2 and beyond. Though I guess for most folks having PHP 7.1 would be good enough for now :)

Had some free time this afternoon, so worked on the php bug list I have.
This was [mostly] for 3.6 & php 7.2 - it looks a bit better now, and covered about 6 more items than the list below.

Not really touched vB4 yet (aside from copying vB3 fixes over where they were relevant) but its a start :)
