Opportunity Before Morals?

I assume that you are contemplating the possibility of running a classifieds, reviews and forum site in this niche, as that is where the money is.

It seems to me that the territory comes with some danger zones in regards to legality and ethical boundaries. Especially when it comes to age/minors, human trafficking, slavery, geo-restrictions and a plethora of nasty topics that such site would need to steer well clear off. Which would mean strict rules and strong proactive enforcement and prevention. Just opening a site to see what happens seems likely to me to end up in highly unwanted situations. Just like you don't want international arms deals by conversation on a gun forum, its easy to see how things could go wrong for an adult provider site.

The fact that such issues need to be on the radar also indicates a social element. It would not surprise me if there would be a role for helplines and organizations that help people who are caught up in nasty situations.

We can discuss via PM but it is not even that... no classifieds either. No minors, etc.

    ^^^ This.

haqzorehaqzore implying its weakness is off-base.

I do some work for a site which isn't pornography, but rather has male-centric subject matter and as a result, it has some NSFW content. I will only do server and admin work for them and nothing content related. That's my line in the sand. I don't do work for pornography sites, and would not be involved in one. If others are comfortable with it, that's fine, but I am not. It's my choice, not weakness.

There's no reason to skip the opportunity.
If youre concerned about webhosts and related services possibly suspending service with no warning, simply host offshore or colocate. Note you do not have to open the full array of perks and sections to unlogged visitors or nonpaying members.

As for wether publicly associating its growth with your person, consider setting up a shell company through a legal representant, fake names and whois protection are very limited since your real details will eventually leak online at least once. Even with the connection exposed, most would consider being a 'shareholder' a purely monetary arrangement.

    You're right to an extent.

Choosing based off morals or whatever your reason, like you have, is a strength.

But I stand by the statement that 1 site wouldn't immediately define me and change who I am.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like it's maybe escort related. Which I don't think is actually illegal in ALL US states, especially if there's no sex involved - or at least you claim there isn't, ha ha. In any case, as long as you are adhering to all laws, and you feel reasonably sure that you're not in some way contributing to questionable practices involving unwilling women, then all's good, as far as I'm concerned. But whatever it is, do yourself a favor and run it by your wife first. What she thinks about it is probably more important than what any of us think, and judging by one of your previous comments it sounds like you haven't mentioned it to her. That road leads only to trouble, my friend. ;)

I was thinking maybe drug/'meds' or 'legal' highs or even vaping.

Morality is such a nebulous concept to me, it usually only works on context of a clearly defined group, e.g. your family, your close community, in some cases perhaps your country, but the more complex and heterogenic the group, the less defined things become.

Hence my way to think about this is threefold: is it legal? Do I feel fine with the subject matter regardless of other people’s opinion (as in am I fine with it if I could be sure no one knew my involvement)? Could it hurt me in a real and specific way, as in my current job, an election I am partaking, my relationship to my partner?

If all those three are NO I don’t really care about morality as a general idea enough to stop making money, to be honest.
