A devastating issue plaguing Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 & GTX 1070 cards from EVGA causing them to burn out and die has been discovered. This came about after reports of EVGA ACX GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards suddenly going up in smoke started to pile up over the past week.

Hundreds of GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 owners have come out on EVGA’s forum ( #1, #2), the Nvidia ( #1, #2 ), Build A PC & PC Master Race subreddits to describe their shock as they saw their graphics cards literally go up in flames.
One user reported his computer suddenly shutting down with a bright orange flame gushing out of his graphics card. While another reported seeing sparks followed by the screen suddenly turning black in the middle of a gaming session with foul smelling chemical smoke subsequently pouring out of his machine.

Seeing sparks and smoke coming out of your computer isn't a pretty sight. That happened to me once, a PSU fried. I was actually about to buy an EVGA 1080, I've always had great experiences with this brand, but now I'll have to wait until there's a fix or try a different brand. Thanks for posting this. :)

Welp, it's a good thing I didn't upgrade yet. I think I'll wait.

Just recently bought a 1070 and have yet to have any issues like this. I also went OD when it came to cooling my machine, so that might have somethign to do with it.

Asus Strix 970 owner here ==> ASUS FTW!
I've been considering an upgrade - so thanks for the alarming info Danielx64
I wonder what happens if the EVGA issues literally sparked out of hand and damaged an entire PC? Would EVGA foot the bill for an entire PC replacement??? Wow. Quite concerning and alarming...
