Not bad, I like it.
Ratings built into the core?
Good one IPB!
Agreed, wish other platforms would pick up on that.
I agree as well. This looks like a really good implementation with a healthy number of configurable options.
I have to give IPS kudos... they are FINALLY starting to listen to their administrators and what is being asked for being implemented - even if it is slowly.
Meh, not a fan of this. I prefer simple up/down implementations.
Pretty sure it's optional and you can still use the older ones.
But they are correct, most people want them and they are more "social" than a simple up/down vote.
According to the post, they are optional.
The system is flexible enough so that you can have a simple up and down voting system if you want.
I don't know that that's true, just look at Reddit for example.
I'm happy if I can just continue using the up/down likes I have in place though.
I'm quite sure it's true, considering I wrote the feature with that in mind.
Would be interested in seeing your data to back that up
Very well done!
Features like this keep the forums alive.
Awesome feature. Kind of wishing I had some way of transferring my Oxwall data to my IPS4 suite now, since it seems IPS now has a bunch of social features (particularly with that Clubs update).
Let that be a warning for those that have ever considered Oxwall. *shivers*
Really really nice addition to IPB. I'm like wow!!! It's about time.
And hmmm... I know a lot of folks who make use of Post Ratings add-on for Xenforo. Sure wish the functionality were added to the out-of-box XF2 and/or the Post Ratings add-on be upgraded to better mimic the new IPB functionality. It's time for an upgrade!! But wow. Great addition. Kudos IPB!
Do they not offer some sort of export of your data? Provided it's not extremely convoluted (we have had clients try to send us their data in the format of emails before) we can generally convert most things, provided there is an export.
Thanks for the reply! I'm unsure, although I am hosting the software and database myself, so I know there's a way to export the data via command line or phpMyAdmin.
I'm just clueless when it comes to anything database related, and through the use of my Google-fuu I've pretty much just seen that "it'd be a really hard task and might even be better just to invite people over to your new site." Which is not an option I'd consider with my small but valuable community.
Is this something you guys offer with standard support (granted it can actually be done), or would I be looking at paying for the service?
I'm really interested in converting over from my Oxwall platform to my full IPS suite (which I need to renew whenever I want to start using it again), although at the moment the site doesn't make enough to justify large costs — and as such, is the reason I've been thinking of just building another community altogether using your software and just sucking it up with my Oxwall site. Though the latter doesn't fix that little tick at the back of my mind about Oxwall.
We offer a custom conversion service for a fee. The overall cost depends on the complexity of the database. If you drop us an email (firstname.lastname@example.org), we can take a look at it for you and see what we can do.
