Seriously, Joe. First line of the email:

Let us help you migrate your vBulletin 4 site to vBulletin Cloud

    (third line of the op)

Think it's already been discussed.. and that it was WordPress (surprise surprise surprise) that was the attack vector and not XenForo. :p

Are you sure Tapatalk people are telling the truth?
I've been waiting for 4.1 which would come out anytime now but I haven't seen any security release from WP recently.

Last news I seen about WordPress was the SoakSoak issue.

Pretty sure that WordPress wouldn't be releasing a security release if it it was a WP 3rd party add-on (which is what it was from my understanding).
From the discussion thread over on their site (they aren't clear in this post) they just refer to WordPress as the attack vector - but made comments about a 3rd party add-on earlier.

    Then it's not WP fault.

what you said to me Joe is "um, isn't the cloud only available with vb5?"

    and I quoted this:
Let us help you migrate your vBulletin 4 site to vBulletin Cloud

edit:apologies I can see where you got confused. You think they are saying that they'll migrate your 4.2 to the cloud and also upgrade it to 5. I think they can do that but it's probably optional. I'm pretty sure vbcloud supports vb4 (could be wrong though)

    No, You said

There is no vb4 in the cloud. If you take them up on this, you will be converted to vb5... Thus, disproving YOUR statement of vb4 being in the cloud.

And THAT'S all there is to it... :)

Not sure I said that tbh:D bit unfair putting words in my mouth.

I'm shocked the cloud thing is only vb5. That is news to me (obviously.) Wowsers.

Trouble is, if they upgrade to a new version and there is a major bug, your site HAS to tolerate it until they get it fixed.

I don't really like auto updates.

What happen if you want to leave the cloud later?

vBCloud is only VB5. Any VB4 (or VB3) sites would be upgraded to the cloud version of VB5.

so the offer is that you give Internet Brands all your member data and all other data that you have in your database, agree to their TOS which basically grants them to do as they please, then they 'upgrade' your site to vbulletin 5 and pretty much kill it off.
Almost an offer you can't refuse. What on earth could go wrong?

Ok, so this is what we do fellas.

So we take some forums, gain access to their databases for our own purposes. Then we strip out the mods, the add ons and any extra features that people may have liked. Next we downgrade them to 5 and then charge them a monthly fee as well a the license fee that was paid initially. It makes perfect sense.
Another beautifully crafted business incentive right there.

All those in favour say MUGS.
