Classic Camp Stoves
A bit 'niche' but we made it over the threhold having been around since 2000. Our count only starts from 2004 as before then we were a static site with a non-migratable network54 forum bolted on. We moved to a phpBB forum in 2004. In 2007 we migrated the forum & all our static content onto FusionBB. Last month we moved onto Xenforo shedding some non-core posts & inactive members in the process.
Nice site and was looking then. I have a paraffin Tilley Lamp used for night fishing. Was reading a topic on the forum with them mentioned.
You need my other site - not yet a big board!
I don't really think of it as a big board, but it qualifies here.
2.6 million posts
Founded 2003 (on another software, vB since 2004 I think)
Over 5k members, between 1.2k and 1.1k actively visiting
Shattering posting rate when they are all on and nattering away
Least fancy of all the boards posted so far, I think.
Hobby board - take a look at this gallery for an idea.
By far the largest and most active board in the hobby, has outlasted others.
Yep. would be nice to see new big-boarders join in the fun..
When does the fun start?
right after your next database crash.
Never had that yet in over 12 years of messing with this. Doesn't sound like my definition of fun anyway.
so can i come in to?
584k posts, 15k members, online since 2004! Been on IPB since V1 and just upgraded to V4!
Wasn`t online long time ago - but somehow now like everybody got a Big Board icon
How about making a "Very Big Board" group - to have a smaller group of people beeing able to help at "Awesome Big Board" issues?
The point of this post is: At the current limits, you may host that "Big Board" on 1 shared server.
No need for replication, CDN, tweaking the network, open file limits, juggling with memory and other recources and so on.
Small hacks for getting rid of 1-2 querys per PI does not really affect "Big Boards", having 80 querys/s - but it`s a hughe impact, if you have 15000 querys/s or more.
I hope anyone got my point
THe big board group is already dead as it is xD
If anything, just increase the number required to get into big board status such as 1 million.
Or some more relevant data like: More then 3000 Users online?
This one gets harder because a lot of forums measure it differently (members vs guest, CDN, etc), where as post count or member count is 'simple' to understand.
My "big board" is fulltime, and has been since 2009. The expenses and responsibility associated with running as a business simply aren't addressed.
Yes sadly this forum does not address the needs of "big board" owners very well. Not sure why that is. But it would be nice if it picked up more.
Without input from the Big Board owners on what they would like from the section, we can't address the needs they have
