Hello, I'm Anna from the Windows Department!
Hello Anna, what would you like?
Do you know that someone is using your computer for illegal activities?
    No I don't.
Yes, someone is using it without your knowledge.
    Hmmm...
Let me help you to track it down. Are you in the front of your computer?
Yes, I'm in the front of my iPad.
What? Your computer is not on?
    I don't have a computer.
What? You don't have a computer? Why are you wasting your and my time???
Could not answer, the lady hung up...

    Sorry Anna!

I'll apologise when next time she'll call.
I hope that she won't cancel my Windows licence...
Oops... I don't have one because the iPad does not need it.

I don't answer my phone unless it is someone on my contacts list...otherwise they can leave a voicemail and I will decide whether to return the call based on that. Weeds out a lot of headaches. :)

We were getting so many of these kind of calls we now only use our land line for broadband. It used to amuse me to play with these people but that stopped abruptly when they started to call in the middle of the night.

I get zero such calls on our landline, I use Ooma which filters all this out. Whoiscall on my Android phone stop 99% of them.

I don't answer calls because nobody calls me.

Google suggests that Ooma is not a service I can use in the UK which is unfortunate because it sounds rather useful and I don't think we have anything similar. Luckily I've never had a single unwanted call or text on my mobile number and I've had the same number for 20 years or more so I've been rather lucky there.

Never had one of those. We haven't had a telemarketer call in forever. At least a decade. I used to love winding them up for a half hour to an hour. You could say I put them through the wringer...

The joke is better when it's spoken. Wringers were used a half century ago to squeeze water out of clothing. When spoken, "wringer" sounds like "ringer" because the W is silent.

Point is, I took too much pleasure in being a meany to telemarketers. I'd hear some very colorful language, too.

I usually play along... then have them hold, basically until they hang up, saying my computer is "still booting." Figure the longer I can keep them busy the longer I can prevent them from calling someone else. If everyone did what they could to keep them on hold it would hurt their business model far more than those who just hang up immediately or never pick up.

I used to have fun with them too when we had a land line, and most had an indian accent.
