    Dear All,
I am trying to install Board3 portal to my phpbb forum.
I am confused with the installation instruction.

    http://www.board3.de/portal_docs/install.xml

    The installation instruction is confusing.

    File copy
    Copy: root/portal.php
    To: portal.php
    Copy: root/adm/mods/board3_portal_check_version.php
    To: adm/mods/board3_portal_check_version.php
    Copy: root/adm/style/acp_portal.html
    To: adm/style/acp_portal.html
    Copy: root/includes/acp/acp_portal.php
    To: includes/acp/acp_portal.php
    Copy: root/includes/acp/info/acp_portal.php
    To: includes/acp/info/acp_portal.php
    Copy: root/install/*.*
    To: install/*.*
    Copy: root/install/schemas/*.*
    To: install/schemas/*.*
    Copy: root/language/en/mods/*.*
    To: language/en/mods/*.*
    Copy: root/portal/index.html
    To: portal/index.html
    Copy: root/portal/block/*.*
    To: portal/block/*.*
    Copy: root/portal/includes/*.*
    To: portal/includes/*.*
    Copy: root/styles/prosilver/template/portal/*.*
    To: styles/prosilver/template/portal/*.*
    Copy: root/styles/prosilver/template/portal/block/*.*
    To: styles/prosilver/template/portal/block/*.*
    Copy: root/styles/prosilver/theme/portal.css
    To: styles/prosilver/theme/portal.css
    Copy: root/styles/prosilver/theme/images/portal/*.*
    To: styles/prosilver/theme/images/portal/*.*

What is the meaning of *.*??

    Take example below:

    Copy: root/styles/prosilver/theme/images/portal/*.*
    To: styles/prosilver/theme/images/portal/*.*

It means I need to copy the "portal" of root/styles/prosilver/theme/images/portal

copy to replace the portal of styles/prosilver/theme/images/portal ???:banghead:

    Am I correct?

That is correct, If the portal folder is not there, create it (remember to spell it the same way, including lower case). Then put every file in that folder (** that's what that means)

No, that's not what you do. The only files that goes into the portal folder these files here: Copy: root/portal/index.html
    To: portal/index.html
    Copy: root/portal/block/*.*
    To: portal/block/*.*
    Copy: root/portal/includes/*.*
    To: portal/includes/*.*

This is obviously too big of a mod for you to install manually so why don't you install automod so you can install mods automatically. phpBB has help boards in all languages, so why don't you ask for them to explain automod to explain automod and maybe they have steps how to install a mod to you in the Portuguese board located here: http://www.phpbbportugal.com/forum/index.php

The * is a shell wildcard. "*.*" would mean "all files with a dot in their name".

I was thinking of installing that portal as well until I can get a real front page made up. I'd be interested to hear how it works out for you.

Don't do it manually. Download the mod installer. There is a portal mod that it installs for you as long as you don't have conflicting mods. Go to the phpbb website and download the modification and the modification installer. It's very useful and you don't have to do a lot of work to install all the mods. This way you don't mess anything up unless you try to force install a mod that conflicts with another.

Use a FTP option to move the files to the folders in the file manager to make it easier
