    what would it be?

What would you like successful forum owners to share with you, that could help you to build your own site?

You have PMd me tonight with similar language and I am the one that is out of line and unprofessional?

My point: You asked a question. I answered. Your language can matter on a forum.

Was there a point (other than post/member counts) when you realized you "hit it big"?

For me that was more about activity, not really a magic number. When there were more updated threads by the time I got done reading the existing updated threads that's when I felt like things were really taking off.

At what point did you decide to start paying for services that you were no longer able to provide yourself (other than software/hosting/domain name)? Things like a professionally done theme/website/CMS. (That includes hiring staff or hiring a company to make these things.)

    Hi,

    Well I would ask:-

    "Can I have your forum"

Q = What was the one thing you did, that in hindsight, provided you with the most 'return on your investment' for your forum, whether it be time, money or effort?

p.s. Arguing with an Admin? Ban.

    Thanks everyone.
I'll be using these questions in a series of interviews with forum admin's.

Along these lines, I'd ask to no one owner or admin in particular... at what point did you think it was time to run ads???

Q: What was your most successful method of getting the word out?

After that, it's all gravy and skyrocketing costs, I'm sure. ;)

Q: How much time do you spend on your forum?

Even that isn't all that great of a question. I really don't have a good question I would ask an admin of any of the "commercial" boards. The answer to whatever questions people may have can be found here on TAZ or similar forums. There are really no secrets around, most of the stuff is common sense and then there is admin dedication, the strong desire to be successful, and a bit of luck in the mix.

Twice I noticed larger boards shutting down and asked the admin to refer their members to my site. Both times they did and both times it went fairly well. These were both by far the most pivotal moments in my site's success.

It would be nice to see some type of timeline of growth to better understand how long it has taken some of these huge forums to get to their current size.
