Sounds more like a protection racket, if not preemptive data theft favouring snoopers.
What next, upload your passwords and bank account details so we can prevent them from being posted publicly ?

Nothing at all because they make an hash from the file and only store that. When someone uploads a image and it generates the same hash the upload is not shown but quarantined. The only problem is you'll need to trust Facebook tat they do not save the image in any way.

Editing the photo would not produce the same hash?

Works fine until the database gets filled to the brim with random images. I plan on dumping everything in my meme directory just for ****s and giggles.

If Facebook wants porn why don't they just use Google like everyone else?

There seems to be an assumption here that everyone takes naked pictures of themselves when they erm... get naked. It's something that's never even crossed my mind. What am I missing?

Maybe this is a way for Facebook to boost traffic on their job openings.

A 20 year old girlfriend. Last one I had stayed on snapchat constantly and got the boot because she couldn't resist taking pictures inside my house. I eventually resorted to a jammer so she couldn't use the cell network in here. Couldn't relate to her at all so I moved on.

Ha! That's exactly as I've felt for years now. BUT .... You'd be amazed at how intriguingly rebuffed such a thought process when it comes the various myriad of voyeuristic freak living within the 2017 webisphere LOL.

And sooo funny. A FB update from a couple days ago:
    2017-11-10_15-33-39.jpg

Interesting concept from FB - but why not get ahead of the revenge porn by having no shame, no filter, no shame, etc...
Very socially liberated construct I'm talking about LOL

And Hmmm. I wonder - are FB videos 'hashed' and offer the same sort of 'censored' protection as images?...

Yes it should be hashed to. But you need to understand if you crop or alter an image a bit the hash is useless.

They have some kind of script that will prevent you from uploading copyrighted material or videos of certain things (suicide/violence). Behind the scenes it goes way beyond a simple hash check, they have bots that you can feed a large data set to and make predictions about other unknown images. Machine learning is cool stuff, I suspect that's the main reason they opened this up; just to get a large data set of new images.

It actually makes sense, the only problem is can people trust a company to hold on to their pics.
