Well, I have done it, finally bit the bullet and saying goodbye to Xenforo...just purchased the entire self hosted suite of IPB. I currently own 3 XF licenses and have been a customer of XF since the very first day but with XF v2 now and with all the many issues, bugs, attitudes, addons etc it is time to turn my site from a backyard one to a professional, central overall resource, fro my subject matter.

It will take a few weeks in local development to get it there but I am really looking forward to experiencing all the advantages that IPB has to offer

What do you mean by that?
I understand the addons part, not being ready for your situation but what about the rest?
Bugs get resolved quickly and like every 6 weeks or so the product gets updated.
    Issues, attitudes?

    Welcome to IPS

Stylistically, there are several differences in how they display and present things in the ACP. I would encourage you to take your time in learning how everything works. There's a LOT in the suite. Enjoy!

Thanks Joel, trying to do a test migration on my local PC (xampps) and having issues with Smilies -> Emoticons and Attachments (which path) -> Attachments

It certainly is different and can't wait to start using everything that IPS (or is it IPB) offers...it's a whole new world

Its IPS, IPB was the old software pre 4.x.

IPS is different then vB and XF but its nice and it came a long way while 4.0 was not that special they really worked hard on 4.1, 4.2 and now 4.3. They improved the latest 3 point releases with all kind of new stuff. They are trying really hard to give new stuff.

Well, I am not impressed so far.

I purchased the entire suite and after a few days and support requests I still can't access the Support Forums, the Marketplace to get addons, can't migrate my XF site to IPS because it won't migrate smilies leaving just smilie text in posts etc. Oh, and it seems that IPS has now also set my licence to my local xampps install on my PC but I think that one was my fault

Lodged support tickets and they just say they will have to escalate so I am sitting here twiddling my thumbs unable to use the new software I purchased a few days ago and it's not cheap...hello fristration again

    But...but....but... fixerfixer say's it's the cats meow! ;)

Honestly, if you are converting from XF 2.0 then the converter they have may have issues. As for the smilie text in posts... again, it's probably the "custom" ones that they don't have a match set for - which that's not going to be that unusual as I've had the same issue with conversions to/from other scripts.

And as for the license, yes, that was because you didn't follow their hidden instructions on setting up a developmental site using the correct license flag.

As for accessing the marketplace, etc.... once you are paid, you should already be able to access that if you can download your apps (IPS related). Maybe Lindy will see the ticket... but forget anything being done on a weekend.

Yep, Lindy has fixed the access issues which is really great. Downloaded the Classifieds addon...WOW, that is one great addon. I also advised her of the conversion issue and are yet to hear back on that. Once I can convert then I can start testing and setting what is needed and are desperately waiting to go live with IPS.

Just wondering what approaches others may have used in this...my XF site just has the forums, the gallery, downloads and enhanced search along with 3rd party addons of XON's Content Ratings, Andy's Calendar (no impact if lost), Andy's Bookmark and others which are basically included in IPS. I was thinking of just turning the forums on first, weather the backlash then start turning on the other components. My 11,000 odd users (nearly half a million posts) are mostly the older generation type who really hate change.

You're very welcome to hit up support if you hit any issues. We're a decent bunch, I promise!

Stuart is our conversion specialist, he's more than happy to help.

Thanks Matt, really appreciate that, just need to get the smilie import issue resolved and can then get going.

Things are great now, IPS (Stuart) found the issue with the XF2 to IPS 4.3 and will add the fix to the next release of 4.3 for everyone else. Now the work begins in getting IPS ready for a final conversion of my site but with IPS having so much in it this will not be an over night type of job.

I have said before and have always believed that the only way that a forum site can beat Facebook is to provide a full and comprehensive solution, a "complete" resource on everything possible to do with a subject. Sure Facebook can provide a forum experience along with photos and videos but a forum site needs much much more than this if it is going to entice users back from Facebook. Whilst XF may be a good forum software it has targeted itself away from the bread and butter middle of the road site owners that like to easily develop things to make their site unique...now you need a coders degree, a lot more than just html, to do anything special. I use several solutions and they seem to all need you to get a degree in their own syntax's etc making it all too hard. Now with IPS you have a total solution all in one, all integrated, and easy to create your own very unique site across all its components creating an overall solution, a full resource, on your specific subject and get users away from facebook and back to your site.

Thanks IPS, having developed my own forum site (my own coding) many years ago, then to MegaBB, then to another one, then to vBulletin v3 and 4, then to Xenforo, I hope to be staying and promoting IPS for a long time to come.

Now if I can only get those XON's post ratings to convert over I will be a very happy chappy

Thanks Daniel, I think it is too much for me to understand how to do it.

Love this post - thanks! Our aim has always been to give you the tools you need to succeed and I think you're right - you need more to drive and develop discussions that just an area for it.

I have been with IPS since 2004. I gave Xenforo 12 month's to convince me that what they had to offer was better, glad I came back to IPS.

And that's the secret that many need to learn. There is no "perfect" script for any one site. You have to look at the needs of the site then start looking at the scripts and see which comes closest to meeting those needs in 1st party applications.
For my pipe site, IPS met that requirement.

Yep... the ONLY thing I hate about it is it requires the Commerce (Nexus) package. Since I don't "sell" anything - I only use it for allowing private party to party sales via outside transactions) it's kind of overkill.
The Classifieds add-on (if it's the same one I have on my pipe site) is a really nice application.

Yes i looked at the needs what i want thats clubs, forum, cms, gallery, downloads and blog. If i need to buy this it would cost you a arm and a leg. But i have IPS everything except commerce, so the renewal for IPS for me is 140 dollars a year. If i want the same on XF its 70 dollars to XF and 90 dollars on add-ons is 160 dollars. Now 20 dollars difference is not much but i then have XF to deal with and add-on developers, with IPS i only deal with them its all first party stuff i need.
