Anyone know best places for backlinking gaming community?
I haven't been doing much in that area but I'd say somehow hit up Reddit with some informative posts from your site about recent games or tips.
We have backlinks but only because we have a lot of guides, maps, walk throughs and conversation for this one game we support that others link to because they cant find it anywhere else.
When we first started this kind of info was valuable to get through the game, so we started asking a bunch of content makers for permission to place their guides on our site and we eventually put them into a kind of "library"... whenever we were on other discussion sites that were chatting about specific thing about our game it was "natural" to place a link in the convo pointing back to our forum where the library of guides was... and from there it just grew.
Distillation of all this?
If you have content they will come (And/or create links to your content )
See if you can get mutual agreement on backlinks. These days it is hard to get them any way. You should share links to say article from your to another game forums. And vice versa. Make sure you both forums choose article which is kind of long term. Something like how to use X and Y feature of console etc. This way the links would be relevant for long term. Avoid sidebar and footer links.
Impressive amount of real work and sustained effort you were putting in for that. No doubt borne of true passion for your niche. Not artificial, instead grass-roots organic. Nice job.
Thank you for the great words... so appreciated!
Our little game is waaaaay old (2005 ) but we're still here for the fans!
Thank you so much for your answers guys. I have been looking at several sites that offer backlink services.. They are quite pricey but found a decent one for now.
Paying for backlinks is honestly one of the worst things you can do. Google eventually finds out, and you're risking getting delisted or penalized in search for it.
And if you either can't or don't want to do the REAL work of producing and publishing relevant and engaging compelling CONTENT all the backlinks you can buy won't help you at all. There are no shortcuts and no substitutions for CONTENT. Not fancy skins, not fancy logos, not endless plugins, widgets and addons, not constantly spamming other boards in hopes of gaining members, nothing.
Say you get some hits - what's going to compel those people to join and start posting? Nothing, if you don't have relevant and engaging CONTENT.
Then again, if it's "just a hobby" why sweat backlinks, hits and such anyway.
