Attract New Forum Members

What methods are you currently using to gain new forum membership? How often do you get members using these current methods?

One on one advertising, I run a chatroom on a site and the theme of the chat is gaming so I talk bout the chatroom to new people sometimes and link them. It doesn't work very often but I have gotten 5 new members through that and several people saying they bookmarked it to sign up later.

Is your chat room pretty much always active?

Max amount of people it can have is 10 but I usually end up with a few new faces each day. Its a slow advertisement but with it being a smaller forum still growing a good membership it works out, I've gotten 5 or 6 members now from the chats and people who say the site is bookmarked to join later.
