Although the small VPS I used was reliable and initially good value for money, I became very quickly frustrated with OVH when in December/January I suddenly started getting charged 25% extra which was apparently a planned price increase, yet I cannot find any of the emails they supposedly sent about it.
No big deal, I thought, I’ll see what else is around and consider moving.
I found a similar spec VPS but actually a larger storage capacity for less than the original price I was paying with OVH (before the price increase) with DO so I decided it was worth the move. I even added automated back ups and it still costs less than OVH.
While not entirely their fault, I had additional credit in my OVH account. Essentially I wanted the server to run to the end of the current billing period (which had only just started) and be cancelled and receive a refund for the credit I paid and wasn’t going to use because by that point I’d already moved over to DO.
This seemed like a reasonable request but they initially refused, much to my annoyance. It’s not even a significant amount of money, but merely the principle of paying for something I wasn’t going to use.
They eventually agreed.
Unfortunately their customer support system, and their billing system, is so inefficient that 4 weeks later, despite having two credit notes already with no refund materialising, my credit was eaten into by the next month’s renewal. Worth noting that apparently they can’t just cancel your service on request, you have to just stop paying for it, which I did by cancelling my automatic payment methods. But when you already have credit in your account and they take 4 weeks to reply to no more than 3 messages and still no refund, of course you get billed again and that comes out of your credit balance.
Anyway, a displeased email and nearly a week later, they finally undid the most recent renewal and refunded me the excess credit.
I wouldn’t recommend them at all. You get a good VPS and you get what you pay for, but if you need support or help with billing matters they are absolutely useless.
