"Of the offenders for whom gender was known, 89.3 percent were males."
This is for all murders, males typically are involved in situations where they would be murdered more than females.
"(67.8 percent) involved the use of firearms."
Firearms are used in most cases because it is simply the best reliable method for killing someone. You usually don't see a stabbing outside of crimes of passion or in cases where the murderer was not able to obtain a firearm (or chose another method of killing because they preferred it to the "quick kill" with a firearm).
"Of the female murder victims for whom the relationships to their offenders were known, 36.5 percent were murdered by their husbands or boyfriends."
This is pretty typical and 36.5% doesn't seem that high, I was expecting it to be more than that. One would assume it would be the majority of cases (lovers quarrels and all of that). Since such cases only account for a small portion that means you're more likely to be murdered by an acquaintance than a boyfriend/husband/close friend.
Edit: also none of these stats say whether the murder was pre-meditated or "in the heat of the moment" which is an important distinction imo.
