Well as a fan of SMF in the free forum category, I actually think this is a nice looking product. That being said, I am a bit concerned going forward how it would do simply because you are competing against Xenforo, Woltlab Burning Board, IPB and to a much lesser extent Vbulletin. 4 premium products that have quite a large community behind them already.

You could look at Xenforo as the 'new kid on the block' as they started from scratch and look at them now. But i honestly believe without the vbulletin connection, that success would not exist today. They had an advantage and in this day and age, you gotta have something to set you apart.

My question to you is, what about NitroBB, love the name btw, sets it apart from the other products. That is not a knock at your software at all. It actually looks great from the first glance.

I do still think the price is a little to high. Again not to discredit your efforts but it is a much prettier and enhanced version of SMF. While free might not be an option, a lower price would make it better. Especially since there does not appear to be any styles or mods.

Can SMF themes be used with this? If so, that alone could give you all a viable store if you can still utilize SMF mods and themes.

I do look forward to hearing about this more and I wish you best.

Also, they are limited to SMF's development timeframe.

Drop your price if you want to sell anything. I doubt you have any real overheads. You cannot compete with IPB/Xenforo/vBulletin - you need to pitch this as an affordable and exclusive forum software, for those wishing to differentiate themselves from SMF/phpBB boards, without paying full whack for an all singing and dancing system.

$10-15 is about right. Honestly, you'll make more money than you will right now ;) Go for volume and impulse purchases. Make it cheap enough for people to buy on a punt.

If this was 3 years ago, I'd probably be one of those impulse type of buyers :D

Well cant they expand from whatever SMF is. It's their base yes, but cant they expand that?

Sure, but their source code is dependent on SMF. If something is horrible wrong, it might be something they just can't expand.

Just a thought.

They can move away from the SMF branch if they want to, keeping in mind that they will most likely break themes and addons.

Why can't I start any new topics, or reply to any topics? My username is the same as here.

Hello Frank,

Most mods should work just fine! We worked to keep compatibility with most SMF 2.0 mods, but we added hundred of hooks to make life easier to developers. Themes are different, they are like 80% compatible, they will need to do some changes to make them work with NitroBB. One of our staff members is going to create a tutorial to make transition easier.

Also, they are limited to SMF's development timeframe.

We are not, we based our software on SMF, as it's a secure and stable system with a good community and a really decent amount of both mods and themes, however we are not attached to their development plans, we don't think there could be a business doing releases every six years :)

Thanks for your feedback Hangman we appreciate it.

You are right, we are taking different paths, however if we find serious issues that are present on SMF and our system we won't have any problem giving SMF the fix.

Sure, but their source code is dependent on SMF. If something is horrible wrong, it might be something they just can't expand.

We will be changing core for future versions too, we are already working in a new template engine to make things easier to theme developers, we are also starting the process to migrate code to OOP.

They can move away from the SMF branch if they want to, keeping in mind that they will most likely break themes and addons.

At the moment we are supporting most SMF mods :) We will work to keep that support in future versions.

I checked permissions and everything should be fine, I also used our test permissions feature and we were able to see the buttons to create topics and posts. The only boards which shouldn't let you do it are the announcements one and the mods board. I'll verify again as soon as possible with a different account just like yours.

I don't mean any disrespect but can you tell why I purchase a fork of SMF that does everything that ElkArte does for Free?

Don't worry, you are not disrespectful. You (or anyone else) can compare the pro and cons of each system, give it a try to both and then take a decision. We believe we have a strong system with many cool features and a nice responsive theme, compatible with most SMF mods, improving everyday, that could take its own space in the current world of forum software :)

But don't you want to break away from SMF and not have anything to do with them except there core coding.
