apparently now that 1.1.3 was issued out a week and a half ago to silence the drama(I'll give it another week or two before it pops back up), the latest thing of disagreement on XF is apparently a Paypal issue or something.

lol

XenForo looks pretty nice, they are probably just sitting on mounds of cash and want to just relax :p

Not sure what dream world you reside in, but your statement shows you are completely unaware of what's going on with XenForo.

I am infact unaware, I just assumed since it looks so nice they would be doing well.

Spend few seconds to google: "xenForo Internet Brands lawsuits"
Well then, that explains a lot. I would not want to be on the other side of a lawsuit from a big company like vBulletin. Thanks for the info.

And now this...

How very depressing to see what has become of XenForo in the three months since I left.

There is so much ignorance and so many ridiculous theories surrounding the current situation, but if the simple truth was known, there would be a lot of very disappointed and very angry people.

I'm not going to offer any information as to which camp is right, I value my friendship with Mike too much to do that.

Everyone should be able to work it out for themselves by now and if they haven't then nothing I say is going to make any difference.
the concern thread

I really wish I knew what the hell is going on...

It's obvious something is not right. Exactly what that thing is - is not obvious.

It's not obvious to me either although I could speculate that a lawsuit brought by a company with unlimited resources is ultimately the root cause. I don't generally have the time or inclination to participate in 'concern' threads but... and this is where my problem starts...

I've migrated one forum to XenForo which was a toe in the water. User contribution to that forum more than trebled and the time I've spent administrating the forum has diminished by the same magnitude. In short it's been a resounding success for both me and my users.

I'm in a position where I would like to start migrating the rest of my forums and other forums I administrate, including two huge corporate forums, to XenForo but I'm starting to have doubts. I have to know that XenForo has a long term future. I'm not particularly concerned about future development because the software caters for at least 95% of my needs now and the rest I can do myself or sub it out to a coder if necessary. What I am concerned about is timely security fixes and ticketed support. I need to know that both will be catered for, for many years to come.

Most of what I've read doesn't concern me in the slightest, probably because I've not read most of it :p Brogan's post (quoted above) does however give me some cause for concern. Is it just sour grapes or is it the same sour grapes coupled with genuine inside knowledge? To be honest, I don't need to know and I don't really want to know but when I read stuff like that and it's allow to stand unchallenged, perhaps it is time for the developers to make a another statement of intent.

At the moment I'd describe myself as mildly concerned but not concerned enough to add to the majority of utter speculation and nonsense posted in that thread.

This is how I'd describe myself right now as well, though I'm probably even less concerned than you since my forum started on XF and doesn't make me any money, heh. While I have a basic theory on what's going on, I have no desire to become involved in the obnoxious arguments and immaturity on the company forum and frankly have better things to do with my time. :p The software still works well and, while I'd love to get my hands on the Resource Manager, the lack of updates is not damaging my wallet nor my forum in any way (I do that just fine all on my own :D), so I won't be migrating away anytime soon. /rambling

I don't want to be an alarmist or anything like that, but my 'gut' tells me not to be surprised if I go to XF sometime in the near future and find the doors shut. No announcement or explanation, just shuttered. I hope I'm wrong, but my gut has this uncanny knack of being correct more times than not. :(

That would be a damn shame, but I wouldn't be so surprised the way things are going now.

I'm really trying to keep a positive attitude about all of this. But it is getting more difficult with each passing day.

John, I'm really impressed you've hung in as long as you have. This ongoing state of uncertainty has to be having some really negative impact on businesses like your own.

This is my concern as well. I don't care if they have to concentrate all efforts on the lawsuit for months to come, just as long as I know they at least intend to continue developing the software if they survive the lawsuit.

Yeah, that made me more concerned. Can someone fill me in on Brogan's role in XF? He used to be a XF moderator and/or an add-on developer, is that right? How is he more "in the know" than current XF moderators?

I simply cannot find a suitable alternative to XF that I like as much - so I'm going to carry on regardless and take things as they come. If I later have to migrate to something else, so be it.
