I can't see how Facebook would be larger than Google, really... Google is a source for information, Facebook is users. Apples and Oranges....

I very much doubt Facebook gets more traffic than Google. Facebook is huge now but Google is still a couple of orders of magnitude larger.

In agreement with this, I highly doubt Facebook has passed Google.

In pageviews, Facebook could overtake Google. But Google will not be passed for quite a while when it comes to visits.

Facebook has a killer email system coming out that can rival Gmail ...

also ecommerce capability is growing ... forums don't even

offer marketplaces in the core.

The future looks bleek for most forums as Facebook will continue to innovate.

Regardless of how popular Facebook becomes, Google is in a different realm. It has a lot more services and is the largest search engine online. I really don't think Facebook is getting more traffic than Google.

Facebook can be generating more pageviews than Google, but Google might be receiving a lot more visitors, possibly pageviews.

Google has a lot of things that can generate traffic, like google buzz, Gmsail, etc, that are widely use... Where are the facts that Facebook is bigger than Google? How are they bigger?

The thing about Gmail vs this new Facebook email is that Gmail is always reliable. I'm not sure I would want to rely on Facebook for all my emails.... I mean, they can't even get their chat box to work.

Do you really think that with all their resources they will provide code

as bad as VB Gold or move as slow as forum software developers ?

Niche groups are starting to take off on Facebook ...

good luck to forum owners :Order:

Facebook will only be around for so long though, just another popular fad. It'll probably go the way of myspace in the next 5 years anyway, don't give up on your forums either, they've outlived Myspace and are still here during FB so I wouldn't worry.

Forums software is stagnating and not really innovating ... not sure why

they would be needed when niche groups are taking off on Facebook. :shifty:

Facebook is a fad. It is slowly dying anyway, everything has it's hayday and then they just slowly die off.

Exactly, most people interpret Facebook being bigger than Google through profit wise, where they're completely wrong. Facebook receives way more page views than Google, but Google still has more unique page views than Facebook which is what matters. Heck, Google earns more than Facebook since Facebook's ad click rates are much lower, considering people don't focus on ads on Facebook, instead they're there to communicate with their friends.

Facebook is slowly getting ahead of Google. Someday we might even find a search engine developed by Facebook.

Even if people used facebook LONGER than google, that just means google is doing its job in helping people find what they want quick.

thank you, finally someone with the sense to do that.

I've read so many threads on so many forums about facebook being bigger than Google and it's just not true.
aswell as the fact that Google is a search engine and Facebook is a social networking site - they're not competing or anything so why compare them.

To actually answer the question, Facebook can go further but it isn't the same as what google is at the moment. Google offers a million services while Facebook is still establishing what it offers beyond a online profile, it would take alot of research, time and development and a complete takeover by microsoft for that to commence. Answer, no.

Where do you guys get your thoughts from? I mean, this guy had it on the money until that crap about microsoft (HA) at the end. :banghead:

Facebook is developing itself as a competitor to Google, in all areas excluding search. Who knows what avenues it will head down, but with Google's caffiene update being so damn bad, (rubbish search results returned), now is the time for others to make their moves, as shown by Bing's relatively recent rebrand...
