I don't own a Mac yet, but for those who do, I wanted to know how has your experience been using Microsoft Office on a Mac? Or do you feel the price to get the software is too expensive? I actually saw the regular price for it is about $150, but I saw it the other day for $108. What are your takes on this?

Wrong forum. :V
Use open office. :p

Microsoft office for mac is nowhere near as good as Office '03, but miles and bounds better than office '07... I'd still recommend Open Office because it's free and because it's actually better than office for mac.

Open office is one program, but im sure a quick search on google can come up with some interesting results (I don't own a mac though, so not familiar with its programs)

i don't happen to agree with open office on the mac. i use microsoft office on the mac and i think it behaves just fine. it's definitely better than office 07 on windows (anything is really). i can't comment on the price since i didn't pay for mine (license purchased by work).

I personally prefer Google Docs. It keeps all my files accessible everywhere, and has saved me a few times when I haven't been able to print off assignments.

err.. can't you run windows and/or windows applications on the newer Macs? thereby making this question null and void?

Not directly as far as I'm aware you still have to use boot camp or get vmware fusion.
Well, it it duel boots. So you can pick which one you want to boot to. But I guess why would you buy a mac then just run windows? :coffee:

there is an MS Office version made specifically FOR the mac and it works very well. every program is the same except outlook is called "entourage" but it's the same thing really.

windows applications don't run on macs by default because os x doesn't use the .exe file (.dmg for the mac). with the help of an app called crossover, you can run windows apps on a mac or just get the mac version in the first place (which is becoming easier and easier to do).

i do everything on a mac that i did on windows (except get viruses). if you need to use a windows app in a windows environment (which i sometimes have to do when using certain server fault tolerance suites or a formflow type of software) you can dual boot a variety of ways - bootcamp (built-in), virtualbox (free), or vmware fusion.

and yes... i'm a kool-aid drinking fanboy. haha. i made the switch about a year ago and haven't looking back. down to 1 windows machine from 4 and up to 2 macs all in a year.

I have Office on my Mac, but... I don't really use it. At all.

For very basic things intended for the internet, I just use TextEdit. For longer writing (usually fiction) I use a program called Scrivener. Word has a few nice-ish things, but I don't miss it.

Microsoft Office, OpenOffice, or whatever else... my recommendation would be to use what you use at work/school. Reasons being compatibility and familiarity.

For the record, use NeoOffice, not Open Office for a Macintosh.
