I disagree with your decesion to ban him. If members can't handle it they should leave, but I feel your pain. I am having the same problems, and have had members all want to leave...but you have to make compromises.

Some of us are glad it was not your decision to make then.:unhunh: He wanted to pick a fight everyday. And if I wanted to fight I can do that without hiding behind a computer. (I have a wife and neighbors.)

There is nothing wrong with being extremist. The question is how one tries to convey their position.
That is true. And being insulting to others is not the way to convey a position. It never seems to change minds in my opinion.:)

You could enact a troll mode [he can post but no one can read it :lildevil: except the mods on the forum]

Would achieve everything IMO

Free speech doesn't exist in a private entity. ;) You have control over the content of your board. Point out that speech is only free within the community standards as outlined in your guidelines.

As to the ignore? Yeah, let the membership know. It's not effective though if the post is captured in a quote. This defeats the ignore.

I am still uncertain as to what to do regarding this. Should I make it known to users that the ignore mod does exsist?

He has private messaged me and said he will leave if free speech is not tolerated here no longer and will disappear. That's not what I want totally because he will leave upset. If users used the ignore function then they wouldn't have to put up with his :bs: then everyone is happy? Right?

Just my theory. Need more suggestions/advice.

Thanks

as I had pointed out to me very recently, Free Speech isn't a license to say what you like where you like where-ever you like. In the same way that a news paper editer has the right to decide which letters he publishes in his paper, Administrators have the right to decide whats appropriate for their forum.

I wouldn't be worried about him leaving upset. Most members get upset when you ban them.

So you would rather have 10 members leave your forum, and god knows how many potential members not join all because of one obnoxious member, who will probably do nothing other than lower the standards of your forums? Amazing.
