Sure, all good.

I just don't understand how people get the impression of that someone owes me something. Nobody owes me.

All I wanted was to be fair. And since we are grouped up on this site and discuss ongoings around the admin world, I thought it might be also fair enough to criticize the platform itself we are currently in. That is it.

Like if I say "iPhones are overrated, I think they lack x and y", do you also respond by saying "does Apple owe you something?".

No. Why are you that kind of offended like I insulted anyone or think someone owes me? I am just criticizing. That is what we do as human beings to progress further.

And to be fair, I stated my reasons (2 years has past) and any kind of excuse like "we are busy" is 2 years too late to say so (in my opinion). And imo it is based on laziness why we haven't seen any progress as there was plenty of time. That is it.

I delivered the message, you got the message, the rest is however you wish to progress.

If I want to keep criticizing other platforms, I owe it to myself to criticize myself (my forum) and the platforms I am a member of. Else I would be a hypocrite. That is all.

So, all good, I think everything was said already.

One last thing I will say, the notion of 'two years' even at my age where the years fly by doesn't ring true so I went to check XenForo's announcement forum. I can see from that there's been a slight misunderstanding about our intentions.

It was never planned for TAZ to upgrade to 2.0. Most of the staff here have many years of experience running forums and some have learnt the hard way not to jump on an upgrade, especially one that is effectively a complete rewrite offering little in terms of improved functionality.

Our plan was always to wait until 2.1.0 was released which occurred at the end of January this year. Version 2.1 provided a good indication that the platform would meet our needs and the needs of our users for the foreseeable future. Had that not been the case we would probably have been preparing to migrate to another forum platform.

So in reality work to upgrade probably started sometime during or after February this year which may or may not, depending on your view point, put things in a better light.

Who says a forum needs add-ons?

Maybe an admin forum is best suited on a platform that is totally self sustaining one that can function perfectly fine without unstable, unsupported and non-updated addons from third world countries that often cripple the site on old out of date core software. Boom.

Perhaps the wise thing is to move to a stable platform.... something like Invision Community ..Who helps businesses and brands of all sizes increase customer loyalty, reduce support costs and drive sales by building a vibrant community. The world leading developer in community software. Backed by an entire team of dedicated developers who are focused on continuous improvement and delivering a product that the customers are asking for and that the internet needs, where it's ok to challenge the status quo and try new things... Real true software pioneers of our day. A company that holds themselves to a very high standard. Their work carries a combined stamp of approval. Nothing is released until they all sign it off. Several members of the team use their own products for their own communities. They wouldn't use anything else. With a head office that is located in Virginia but they have team members from all over the world and believe in hiring the best talent regardless of location.

Invision Community. Communities for all.

And yet an admin forum, which mainly is specialized in the forum scene, is still on a version from 4 years ago (main version, not minor).
Who cares? And if it would run on vB 3.x, I wouldn't care about it.
It's the content why I am here, not the newest forum software.
Can I find the (new) content easily? Yes!
Does the site look pleasing? Yes!
Is it safe? Yes!
Is the site bug free? Yes!
Does the site looks well on pc and mobile? Yes!
Do I miss anything? No!
Pointless discussion in my eyes. The TAZ crew makes a great job and I guess they won't make billions by running this site. So why forcing them to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading to something not really necessary?

Well, good that you don't care, but ironically, I don't care if you care or not...
What was the point again? That you don't care about it, so we should follow your lead?

It's the content why I am here, not the newest forum software.
Same here. And for me it is a part of the content to have the reasonable newest software displayed as it is basically the bread and butter of this forum.
It would have been nice to see what "the admin zone", the zone for admins, can bring to the table.

Again, I am NOT saying that one should rush on things and should get the shiniest thing the next day, but I believe 4 years were enough time to make the move...
We are on the verge of seeing XF 2.2 soon...

Does the site look pleasing? Yes!
Well, it looks outdated at this point.

Do I miss anything? No!
I do! Definitely! I miss the push notificiations I have on XF. Because here I have no push, I visit this site every 1-2 days and can't react to alerts immediately because I don't get notified about them, unless I visit the forum actively. Just like I am responding to you now.

Pointless discussion in my eyes. The TAZ crew makes a great job and I guess they won't make billions by running this site. So why forcing them to upgrade just for the sake of upgrading to something not really necessary?
Again, I think you miss the point. Did I make the point of that the TAZ crew makes billions? No. So unless one makes billions, one shouldn't upgrade or what? What is the point here?

And also I am not forcing anyone just for the sake of upgrading (funny after 4 years to read that, like they are rushing things for the sake of it...)
I think you should learn to read. If it was any other forum niche, I can get behind your point. But this forum's topic and niche is about (mostly) discussion softwares at this point (nothing else is going on). So it is a relative tragedy that it is behind current technologies and it perfectly mirrors the forum world we are living in. Just like the forum software development world is behind years now compared to modern popular platforms, this forum is years behind in the software version they should be running at this point. You don't care? Fine, I also don't care. But I find it a very fair and adequate critique which I am impressing. I thought this is what discussions and forums are about. We express our opinions. I now know that you don't care, thank you for that information.

Can I find the (new) content easily? Yes!
Is it safe? Yes!
Is the site bug free? Yes!
Does the site looks well on pc and mobile? Yes!
So is XF 2.1 for all of these mentioned things... So what is the point here? Is XF 2.1 not safe? Not bug free? Doesn't look well?

Anyway, I already made my points many times. I just responded to you because your provocative way itched me and I wanted to pay back your treatment to you.

I dont care if you care, or not ;)

No it doesnt. It looks fine.

Perhaps you need more of a life outside of forums, you dont actually need to react 'immediately'.

Good. Anyone else? Let's start the "I don't care" circle which is very fruitful to a discussion board.

No it doesnt. It looks fine.
It looks fine, just outdated. Something can look fine and be outdated.
Like the American muscle cars (oldtimers). They look 100x better than current automobiles in general (imo), but they eat gallons of fuel, ergo they are outdated and it would be insane to use those cars as regular cars unless you are rich.

Perhaps you need more of a life outside of forums, you dont actually need to react 'immediately'.
Did I say I need to react immediately? I just don't have the opportunity to do that at all (unless I activate e-mail alerts and spam my mailbox). So I miss the confort of having that option. But yeah, life outside of forums? What is that and where can I find that?

:)

Absolutely not, you are free to express your opinion, I just want to throw in my opposite view of that topic.

So is XF 2.1 for all of these mentioned things... So what is the point here? Is XF 2.1 not safe? Not bug free? Doesn't look well?
Didn't say that, IPS 4 is safe too and XF 1.5, even vB 3.8 is.

I just responded to you because your provocative way itched me and I wanted to pay back your treatment to you.
It shouldn't be too provocative, just want to show there are different opinions as well.

I thought this is what discussions and forums are about. We express our opinions. I now know that you don't care, thank you for that information.
Agree. That's why we're here, all fine.
