Can the landing page be the blogs?

Also, in regards to the blogs, can the image at the top of each blog be customized to use an image within the specific blog post?

Never tried that i always used the CMS as landing page but if that can be set then Blogs should be possible to.

Yes, you can set Blog to be the default app, and 4.3 adds cover images for blog entries, like so:

Further - any application you have installed can be set as the default landing page.
