As G-Data seemed to fare so well in that mid-2014 video, I figured they would have cleared up the questionable anti-Malwarebytes behavior by now. :tup:

I'm going to have to give that program a try. If they've remained focused, it sounds like the only real drawback will be for gamers who like a very lightweight package (and I'm not a gamer at all--at least not at this point in my life).

This mirrors my experience with and assessment of Microsoft Essentials as of this writing using Windows 7 64bit.

Just found a wonderful price on eBay = $13.97 for 365 days protection:

There has been allegation (which is not far fetch) of Kaspersky's intimate relationship with the FSB. Unlike the US, Russia doesn't have the First Amendment protection. While US company like Lavabit can openly choose to suspend its operation in face of government's harassment, no such option is available for any Russian company.

I cannot afford to be paranoid about such relationships unfortunately.
I've really liked the protection that KIS affords though. Thus far - no issues with it.
I like it. Paired with Malwarebytes, I feel safER with it installed than I did with McAfee, Norton or Avast...

I don't even use an AV software since a few years and no malware received. None on my Mac, either.

Sadly, the simpler explanation can often be that infections have just not been noticed. More or less discrete data theft (or exploitable configuration changes) is nowadays more common than blatant destruction of the install operating system. Survivability has become probably the most important criteria for malware, above capabilities.

Any extra bit of protection one can afford should be welcomed, especially if you swap USB flashdrives around. Your own discipline can be defeated by others unknowingly sharing their own infections with you. One of the reasons I don't share drives around or use other people's.

Norton has worked flawlessly for my family and I. It's free through Comcast. Never had a virus *knock on wood*

I don't know if its the best, but its the best that I have used, but I use Kaspersky. My aunt has a really bad virus on her computer and I used the free trial version of Kaspersky on her computer and it got rid of the virus.

P.S. I have been using that antivirus for 3 years now.

I've been using Kaspersky ever since posting this thread.
I use it paired with Malwarebytes and haven't had any further issues = YAY! :tup:

USE AVAST IT IS THE BEST! I was once surfing on the web and it gave me a virus warning of hacked sites before i even clicked them and my computer is clean as a whistle!

also when i downloaded the spammy filezilla it stopped the virus!

The best one is the one that works for you and does what you want. I've tried them all bar one (simply because I just found out about it this week lol) which is Emsisoft - the only downside I can see is that it doesn't do anti-spam, which for me is a deal breaker.

I've tried all of these except the aforementioned:

Right now I have Norton on my machine. I would use Kaspersky (as I get it free through my bank) but for some reason the file scanner keeps freezing on random files and will not complete, so it makes me wonder if everything else is working on it.

I've been using Avira for nearly a year and haven't had any problems at all since then. I think I was using Avast before, and at times it made my computer feel a bit sluggish when it was doing anything, but Avira has been nice and smooth.
