For those using Lionde or Digital Ocean VPS, what package do you use and how big is your forum?

I'm a little unsure what to go for and nervous it will under perform.
I have around 7(?) sites on a $10 DigitalOcean VPS. Something like 200k page views per month across them, I'm not sure on that. But with an optimized server, you can run a lot.

XenForo, WordPress/BuddyPress/bbPress, MyBB, IPS4, Oxwall, Ghost; all of those are on my server with decent traffic.

Do Linode or Digital Ocean offer daily/hourly backups as standard? This is also something you might want to consider.

I'm on linode atm, sure they've had a wobble in 2015, but resolved it way quicker than I could ;)

I run a 16Gb and 4GB instance's for an IPB site. They offer a daily backup for not much more. You could do more if you wanted, with a slave db/rsync, abundant network provision.

I'll be swapping to a UK Owner - UK Hosted provider this year after safe harbour collapsed as I have other 'projects' that hold data. It's one less thing to think about, regardless of how it all pans out. Finding them (uk owned) is 'fun', testing them is revealing :) Linode and DO out network most of the big names by quite a long way and not just one or two day blips.

I was in a far cheaper DC 1/4 rack, before linode, running my own dedicated servers. I got a 200ms bump in resp time moving up a tier of data centre and into linode for 'lesser' 'vps' instances and that was 3+ years ago. Some bump from SAS to SSD... but mostly network quality.

I also have nodes out in digital ocean, I'm currently about to test with a UK openstack setup, they even have ARM options, which is now centos7... centminmod experiment too :D

I tried one on the netherlands in Dec and it was very good performance and cost comparable to a 'linode', with some nice value add features for less headache than the AWS behomoth.

HTH.

I forgot, the only gotcha I hit was one late night I wanted to resize one of the DB's. This is probably long since done and dusted, but they'd run out of 8's as was, so I had to either skip or jump higher. I waited a few days :D
