I've forgotten the name of it now, but it was the lovely modification that added a quote into the email.

I remember I used to love the RPG mods - obviously some were a bit more feature rich than others. Then every site had one and it turned rubbish... :(

I've played around with the Social Networking mod on my localhost setup. Have tried it with all 4 of the computers (my main PC and 3 laptops) having my wife and kids help me out. It's a bit buggy in Firefox 3.0 but fine in 4.0, and OK in Internet Explorer, but it still needs work. It is however, my current favorite mod. I want to utilize it on my live board, but I'll first need to rewrite the templates for subsilver2. Haven't really looked at the code yet but it doesn't look too difficult. I think I'm gonna wait first before messing with it because I wanna see where the author is going with this.

He's carrying on partially from some of Ian (Platinum_2007's) mod's, and he's is absolutely an awesome mod author. I already utilize several of his mod's, so it would be cool to see the mod released one day into the mods database.

I wouldn't go live with it, but absolutely keep an eye out on the mod.

There's a new version that's been released that took care of quite a few bugs (6.0 version) - http://socialnetwork.phpbb3hacks.com/index.php. Also the authors are quick to answer any problems you might be having and giving you alternative codes to fix issues between releases via their board. I'm using it on my live board with 0 issues in a lot of different browsers.

Edit to add that a 3rd favorite is the Classifieds Mod, that adds a true classify to a forum http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=2097006&hilit=classify

It is great feeling to see that there are people who consider my MODs (phpBB Social Network, Classifieds MOD) as the bests phpBB MODs.

Btw new (heavily rewritten) version of phpBB Social Network is comming soon :)

Your actually doing forum owners a HUGE favor. Most people who get new computers these days like to hit the usual hotspots like facebook and youtube first before exploring all that the internet offers.

Forums have kind of died over the years, but then again, they have found an ultimate purpose of bringing people together. Facebook can't do that. You have to look for friends or relatives first. It's almost like a damn dating game.

With forums you get a community. Doesn't matter if you have 10 regular members or 1,000.

The social networking MOD for phpbb really helps cross people over into the forum platform. You've done a REALLY REALLY excellent job so far. Paid forum software developers should envy you.

Well I did not expect such a reaction. phpBB Social Network is not even in half of development. It is just a pretty good base for new modules and features. We are working on new version which will ease creating modules such as user blogs, fb connect or galleries. Then we can compare it with other social network solutions :)

Ultimate points is pretty good, but like many large mods, it touches a lot of the core code which makes it more difficult to install other mods. If phpbb 3.1's hook architecture is done right, we should hopefully see more mods that don't touch as much internal phpbb code. 3.1 is taking forever though.

Thats right. Therefore I dont like big MODs like Ultimate points. However there is always a way how to NOT touch and part of the core and add huge MOD. For example phpBB Social Network mentioned above have about 250 files and there are only 3 necessary small changes in installation instructions :)

I've seen your mod and there are very few changes to the core code. It's too bad more mod writers don't do the same thing.
