Got this email this morning from the CIRA (Canada):

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA), the organization responsible for managing .CA domain names in Canada would like to advise you that your Registrar, Webserve Communications Inc. is no longer a CIRA Certified Registrar.

As a consequence, Webserve Communications Inc. no longer has the access to CIRA systems needed to help you manage your .CA domain name registration(s).

When you registered the following domain name (s), you selected Webserve Communications Inc. as your CIRA Registrar.

wow.

hmmm - you may wanna simply transfer your domains to a different registrar. A trusted registrar like http://namecheap.com for instance ;) Although I'm not sure how you'd do that, since you'd need to request EPP Code from your current registrar in able to begin the transfer process.

Yeah - I'd request the epp auth codes for ALL your domains and move them immediately to a trusted registrar.

Yeah, it's a minor setback, but when you transfer, it should renew your domain for another year. You were probably going to do that one day anyhow.

So this is the email I get from Webserve....just now:

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR .CA DOMAIN NAME
[This notice is related to .CA domain names only]

By now you should have received an email from CIRA stating that you need to change your .ca domain name registrar company from WebServe to another company which is a normal procedure and expected, Since WebServe partnership with CIRA has been ended, however WebServe still will be able to register, renew or manage your domain name through our other partner channels, please follow the instructions below to initiate your discounted domain renewal/transfer to WebServe new and improved .ca system.

To improve our domain name registration, transfer, renewal and management system WebServe domain services will be moved to our new system which requires you to transfer your domain name, what this essentially means to you as the domain owner is basically very little! You are only changing the name of your registrar; you will not notice any other change in your website or domain name ownership or contact information, except the name of the company that you registered your domain name with. Furthermore during the domain transfer your domain name will be renewed for one full year, which means your domain expiry date will be extended by one year regardless of what your domain expiry date is. So even if your domain name is not expiring and you have months or years left till expiry date still you will receive one year added to your current expiry date.

That's hilarious in a totally absurd way.
You mean to tell me they sent that email notice to you AFTER-THE-FACT?! Why the hell would they not advise you of the fact that their "partnership with CIRA has been ended" perhaps a week or at least 24 hours prior!? That would have been an intelligent customer service move if they had.

I'd advise you to transfer your domains to a legitimate domain registrar immediately while you still can.
