I run a Pagan forum (http://eclecticpaganpaths.com/index.php) and the traffic is relatively good, we've been getting about 3 people registering a day since we moved to the new site less than a month ago.

I want to look into advertising... Like in magazines and on websites etc but I have no idea how to go about it... Do I just email the companies/site owners?

This being my field, the best place to advertise is on other pagan sites and on facebook, I have many pagan/psychic friends and have groups on there. The is chat fate magazine, but in general you need a story or you could actually buy ad space, I doubt that would help, Facebook is your best bet and connect with other pagans

advertising on google adwords can be a good idea as well (only on search engine results though, not affiliate networks).

Learn what keywords people search to visit your site (by checking google analytics), then by ads on those keywords. You may find it only costs you $0.20 to show up on 1,000 google search results!

The general assumption might be that Google AdWords is an expensive advertising solution but as mentioned and in reality we see that it is not like that. You could even discuss the case with some verified AdWords agents to make sure your website would gain the most traffic shares at the lowest prices.

Facebook advertising worked out amazing for my friends forum.

It has been going for about a month and now constantly has about 1000+ users online at the same time, and hes only spent £90
