Speaking as a fellow member, wouldnt signatures links actually be handier since they associate with every post if desired?
Consider that many webmasters run multiple sites so the oldschool homepage field might be limiting.

1. guests cannot see signatures
2. signatures should only show once per page
3. signatures links are usually “no follow” for bots
4. i dont know 99% of my friends here websites
5. my main website is not in my signature either

as a admin forum i would think a place on your profile to share what all sites you admin linked to an icon on postbit under your avatar would be an obvious improvement

Wasn't there a field for that on vB at one point? I seem to vaguely recall something like that (I might be wrong, I have been before ).

Or just another place for spammers to post their rubbish.

If I recall correctly you could set up any number of custom fields in the post bit (under the avatar) in vB4.

There's the other argument that posting on a forum doesn't automatically give the allowance to advertise links to third-party sites.

I like that argument,

don't we all have something to gain?

Traffic to the site in my signature trumps my need for personal satisfaction of someone “liking” my content

On this particular subject, not personally, no :D Unless you count the amusement of having fun debating it with you.

Which takes us to using someone's site for free advertising. That raises a question - would you pay to be allowed to display the link in your postbit?

I inquired about sponsorship here and it was 10 times the price i charged on my big board with 400-600 members logged in 24/7

I don't know what the prices are here. In general, if it was an option (I don't have any say on whether it would become one or not lol) say a stand-alone option, is it something you'd pay for?

Nope, ill barter my time and efforts in exchange for it

Posts4Profits is an old idea i had to make people earn their ads if they keep posting good content it stays if they go awol the ad removes its self

Would be best if the link was required to go directly to the forum. That would really minimize spam
How? A url is a url. If someone posted a url in there, unless it was checked, no one would know what it went to. You couldn't restrict it to only urls ending in /forum because not all communities use forum as their link to it. So what would stop someone from throwing in some random url?

Might be best to stick a few requirements on the ability to include a URL in the home page field. After five posts or so, you generally have a good idea of what kind of member someone will be.

Maybe even have a little timer too, so they need to stick around for say, 2 hours to get the ability as well. Shoots down spammers posting a bunch of rubbish as quickly as possible.

This link to their home page would probably be hidden in mobile like the other info there so that part of the argument doesn't hold up :D

Xon has a custom profile permissions add-on which should help with something like this in regards to allowing specific users to link their home page. I'm actually thinking more of displaying a link to their showcase items there where we'd ideally want the majority of the users' site promotions to go on.

the majority of the time people are talking about their own sites and the majority of time no one has any idea what they are talking about

just like 2nd street is the most popular street in the usa

so is the second post here asking

“we need a link to your site to help you”

could also do a confirmation/validation by having them install a .txt in root dir of the site they are linking too, shouldn't be hard to figure out how to do that. i could do on invision because cross platform validation is built in by default
