Okay, so we want to get rid of many (most? all?) of our old smilies.

Please post the existing smilies that you think should be saved in this thread - the ones that get enough mentions will be recycled and the rest dumped.

It would be kind of nice to keep the entire range of Shelley's old smileys as an option in their own category. The normal emoji set don't express some of the additional emotions you can express using them.

Migrate to XF2, update the tables to use native emoji, flag all of the existing smilies to not show in the editor (so they don't show but also don't break any existing usage of them), wait until anybody complains about "missing" smilies and then turn the flag back on for those so they show up again.

XF 2.1 actually ships with a high resolution sprite-sheet containing the XF1 smilies.

Spoiler: XF1 smilies

You can either point the 2.x smilies to that sprite sheet (instead of the EmojiOne style ones) or you can re-add the smilies, as you say, to a separate category.

Yes please on the high res smilies! The pixelated versions on my iPhoneX make me feel like I’m using my old Nokia, without indestructability.

I'm not familiar with how XF 2.1 is working, but what I did when I converted my vB3.8 to XF 1.5 is kept only a small handful of the old smilies, then added the shortcut code for those I got rid of to the smilies I kept. I added 3 or 4 shortcuts to some of them. I just didn't want to be looking at an old thread and see a bunch of broken shortcut codes - and I didn't want members complaining that the shortcut they had been using for years was now broken.

Anyway, here's some I think are worthy of saving:
