There a question that comes up once every 2 or so weeks on TAZ: What forum system should I buy? In this article I'm going to answer that question for once and all.
Q: So what should/shouldn’t I buy? What would you recommend?
A: Only you (the forum admin/owner) can answer that! As far as what I would recommend, I’m not telling you!
The reason for the above answer is plain and simple, every forum is going to have different requirements – Some people need a full on suite (Think IPS), some only need a forum and nothing else and some may need something in between.
Can you help me with anything?
But it not all bad news, what I can give is some helpful advice on selecting a forum system.
- Take the forum system out for a test drive. Every major forum vendor (paid ones) will have a try before you buy demo that you can use to test the system)
- Decide what add-ons you are going to want/need. Is the system you are looking at have the required add-ons? How much do they cost?
- Lastly, do your homework and math – It could end up cheaper spending more on say VB with a bunch of free add-ons than buying IPS and having to fork out $$$ for all the extras that you want/need.
Well that’s all I have for you, and good luck with launching your next forum.
